The Walk Across Illinois Introductory Route In 2001, Pat Quinn walked 167 miles across Illinois from the Mississippi River to Lake Michigan as part of a campaign for better health care. Today, you can follow Gov. Quinn’s path on the Walk Across Illinois Introductory Route. This is a perfect route if you are starting an exercise routine.

The Walk Across Illinois Challenge Route The 595-mile south-to-north trip is for our most ambitious participants. The route covers almost every region of Illinois. You begin at the Superman statue in Metropolis and wind your way to Winthrop Harbor on the Wisconsin state line.

Walk the Walk Challenge Learn about the history and geography of Illinois. The 375-mile trip from Rock Island to Springfield (via Chicago) includes information on transportation choices, healthy eating and 19th and 20th century historical events.
In the early 1800s, before European settlers came to Illinois, the Blackhawk Native American Tribe lived in this area. The Chicago Blackhawks hockey team is named after the Indian Tribe who lived in the Joliet area.
